Is truth still relevant today?

Markets go hand in hand with culture, reflecting what is important to us and creating new trends. With so many approaches to optimising efficiency, maximising productivity and achieving profitability, is there any place to talk about truth? Is pure laissez-faire the road to freedom? Do the markets and our lives work best with truth in the picture?

Is truth dead and does it matter?

Simon Edwards

Are we really living in a post-truth world or is there such a thing as objective truth? Are truth claims nothing more than disguised bids for power, or is truth the only weapon that can speak to power? Our answers to these questions have profound implications for us as individuals and for our interactions with wider society.

Truth in a world of multiple religious narratives

Max Jeganathan

We have created financial markets to generate wealth. We have created political systems to achieve justice. We have created economic systems to facilitate commerce. In all of these spheres, absolutes reign supreme: The absolute supremacy of freedom, of capital, of democracy, of profits. However, when it comes to ‘truth,’ we are so often told that there are no absolutes, that people should simply find their own truth and get on with it. This talk will consider the very concept of ‘truth.’ What is it? What does it mean? Why is it so important to who we are, why we’re here and where we’re going? And what does the person of Jesus Christ and the Christian message have to do with it?
